The World Valuation Congress VIII is a programme of the World Valuation Congress Trust a registered educational charity in the United Kingdom. The Trust arranges for an International Congress to be held every two years in association with the sponsoring universities namely, Amsterdam, Auckland, British Columbia, The City (London), Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Singapore and Texas, with a professional society , the Incorporated Society of Valuers and Auctioneers (ISVA) and, from the public and private sectors respectively, the British Columbia Assessment Authority, and Jones Lang Wootton.

The sponsoring host for World Valuation Congress VIII is The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. To date, Congresses have been held at the University of Cambridge (1984), The University of British Columbia (1987), Singapore (1989), The City University and University of Amsterdam (1991), The University of Auckland (1993), the University of British Columbia (1995) and The University of Amsterdam and the Centre for Investment and Real Estate 1997.

Typically, appraisers from between 25 and 40 countries attend, including Presidents and senior members of major international professional institutes and societies.

The Objectives of the Congress remain unchanged, namely, to provide a forum for the discussion of the principles and methods of valuation throughout the world and to bring together leading appraisers and academics from both the private and public sector.

The programme will, in addition to keynote addresses, feature discussion groups and workshops. All delegates will have the opportunity to participate personally. There will be a number of plenary papers following the theme of the Congress for 1999 which will be :
