COURSE DETAILS

CERTIFICATE IV IN BUSINESS (ESTATE AGENCY PRACTICE)

The Department of Financial Studies, which is part of the RMIT Business (VET), offers a 27 Module course in Real Estate. The course's aims are to provide the academic requirements under Section 14 (1) (a) (i) of the Estate Agents Act 1980 for the issue of an Estate Agents licence, and to provide vocational skills and knowledge for those engaged in real estate activities generally, both at an operational and management level.

This course is primarily intended for Agent's Representatives wishing to obtain an Estate Agent's licence, and for school leavers wishing to enter the industry. The first three modules of this course must be completed before a person can be an Agent's Representative. Details of this course follow this section.

  • Entrance Requirements

The basic entrance standard is satisfactory completion of Year 12 studies, however there is also provision for mature age entrance, with the applicant to have had some business experience.

  • Course Duration

The modules are of varying lengths (see table below) and, accordingly, length of course will depend upon the load a student wishes to take. The normal length of course would be between 2 & 3 years part-time. At present RMIT does not offer full time study in this course, however RMIT does offer this course on an accelerated part-time basis requiring daytime attendance for a number of two week courses. This allows course completions in approximately six months.

  • Course Locations

This course is available on-campus at RMIT, Swinburne University of Technology (Prahran Campus), Peninsula Institute of TAFE, and Eastern Institute of TAFE. Off campus study (correspondence) is also offered through the Open Training Service and individual Colleges. This mode may well prove particularly useful for those for those people distant from an on-campus centre.
